Padres Principle's: Excellence

If the game teaches us nothing else, it should be that our very being should strive for excellence in all that we do. To be satisfied w/anything less, is to negate the very basis of our being. The game itself begins & ends w/this continuous pursuit, w/each outing providing another opportunity to capture this very elusive virtue.

Even the ball that we find snuggled tightly w/in our mitts after a hard hit or throw is measured & found excellent before it is allowed w/in the field of play. It's core is contained by 88 inches of waxed thread, forming 108 stitches around a sphere that weighs between 5 & 5.25 ounces & is between 9 & 9.25 inches round 2 seams. It's surface is free of blemish & checked for 17 potential flaws before earning the right to be hit or thrown.

If so much attention is paid to the most disposable part of our game, shouldn't our goals as players be no less focused on this virtuous pursuit? Our best effort should bring contentment, but excellence should always be our end goal. When we learn to chase excellence in our efforts between the lines & outside of them as well, we are well on our way to where we should all be after all.
